ITINERARY

Day 1 PAKSE – KHONE ISLAND

DAY 1 - PAKSE – KHONE ISLAND

Travel by bus to Pha Pheng Waterfall on the very southern tip of Laos where a swirling torrent of water pumps thousands of litres of water into Cambodia every second. Lunch today is at a local restaurant in the fishing village of Xieng Di, perched on the banks of the Mekong. Cruise to the small village of Ban Veuthong, where you’ll board a small boat that meanders through the archipelago to Khone Island. Visit an old French railway and stroll across the bridge linking Khone and Det Islands. At Khong Island meet the Vat Phou. This former teak wood ferry has been lovingly restored, with two large open air decks, bar and a restaurant. Relax on board and enjoy a sunset cruise and dinner, docking riverside for the night.

Day 2 VAT PHOU CRUISE

DAY 2 - VAT PHOU CRUISE

Set sail for the village of Ban Deua Tia a small Lao village where the traditions of the past have changed little over centuries and have a chat with the locals. Cruise north to Huei Thamo, and take some time to explore the hidden forest temple of Oum Muong.

Day 3 VAT PHOU – PAKSE

DAY 3 - VAT PHOU – PAKSE

The cruise continues to Champasak where you will see Vat Phou, a 10th century temple complex that predates Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat, the United Nations has now designated it a World Heritage Site. Spend a few hours exploring the ruins, which stretch for ten kilometres, and climb to the site’s highest temple. Return to the boat for lunch before taking a long-tail boat to motor up river 2.5 hours to Pakse, where your tour will end.
